Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2 to appear at the Smithsonian!

May 5th, 2011 by John

At long last, Nitroid (one of KPNs administrators) can finally calm the fuck down about Metal Gear Solid 4.

You see, a while ago, during the Silent Months (when KPN site journalists went on striI mean, stopped giving a shit), the Smithsonian American Art Museum. located in Washington D.C., announced that it would launch a new exhibit called The Art of Video Games. They allowed registered users to vote for which games should be displayed, two of which included none other than Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2! Lo and behold, both games got selected!

The Smithsonian American Art Museum has announced the inclusions in its upcoming Art of Video Games exhibit. The museum took the selections to an online vote, and winners include several Mario and Zelda games, Metal Gear Solid, Halo 2, BioShock, and Minecraft.

Also making the cut is Uncharted 2, Flower, Shadow of the Colossus, Fallout 1 and 3, Portal, Mass Effect 2, Heavy Rain, Brutal Legend, and Final Fantasy VII. Metal Gear Solid 2 is listed later in the article.

The Metal Gear series was one of the first to make me seriously consider games as an artform. Its great to see two of my most treasured games being on display at one of the most well known art museums.

If you wish to bitch about how some of your favorite games didnt win and how so-and-so games didnt deserve to win, feel free to register to our forums.

The exhibit itself will run from March 16, 2012 to September 30, 2012.

Take THAT, Roger Ebert! and Will Wright! and Hideo Kojima! wait, what?
