Kojima Working On A New IP After All?

July 17th, 2010 by Henry Spencer

So, after going out for a meal with Suda 51, Ken Imaizumi and the CEO of 5pb, Chiyomaru Shikura, Kojima obviously had a moment of self discovery. Snatcher and Policenauts by now seem like a lifetime ago to Kojima. Regardless of this fact, Kojima must have had an urge to revisit a genre he has long since left behind.

In a recent interview with 4Gamer, the CEO of 5pb, (a developer of niche Japanese adventure titles), Chiyomaru Shikura shed some light on what Kojima has obviously been keeping very quiet about. “With regards to the projects that I’m directly involved in, there’s the third entry in that science series, and the project with Konami’s Hideo Kojima. I think these are the two things that I should first put my full effort behind.”

“Kojima is making an adventure game?” 4gamer replied. Responding Shikura stated, “Yes, Kojima said that he wanted to make an adventure game. We’re still at the level of ‘let’s lock ourselves away in the mountains somewhere and work on the plot,’ so the specifics haven’t been finalized.”

What Kojima’s exact role is in this new IP will be shall remain a mystery for now, but reading between the lines Kojima will at the very least be writing it. It would not be much of a stretch to say he shall direct the game as well, especially considering how fondly he has spoken about adventure games in the past and seeing as how this will be a return to the genre since two very special titles he directed long, long ago. Now that this is out of the bag, I suppose Konami will have to comment on it, Kojima himself, more than likely will also. Will update once we get further confirmation.

Excited?

After beating Snatcher days ago and currently playing Policenauts, I am pretty damn excited about this news.
Hopefully this actually happens, instead of “lol MGS5.”

Yes! can’t wait!

This could be the “taboo” project. “Today, I got an ally who would happily support me in that risk. Although it’s just one person. For a start, it’s good.” Maybe this Shikura is the ally.

So an adventure game is a taboo now?

@Henry Spencer: Maybe it’s a Snatcher spin-off about the everyday life of a Neo Kobe sex-line operator? :P

I really don’t see why it would be Snatcher since Konami owns Snatcher.

Finally, I am so relieved that it’s not metal gear.

[...] RISING”, it’s nice to see that at least David Hayter’s finding work. Acting like a typical Kojima Productions dick-teaser, Hayter made two posts on his Twitter about a secret project he’s working on. “So, I [...]
